Summertime and the living’s easy…. The heat has arrived but life has cooled down. Now that school’s out, it’s time to relax by the pool and just let the time slip away… Or just melt into the lounge, literally! For those still in town, enjoy the calmer traffic and laid- back lifestyle.The Doha Summer Festival is expected to return July 15th –August 15th, providing air conditioned entertainment for the family and shopping discounts every day, so hopefully there will be plenty of options to keep us amused.
First, I’d like to welcome Kelly Flynn to the page. She will be writing a monthly column, “The View From Al Khor.” With so many of us based in Doha, she will provide us with a glimpse of life from the northern end of the country. This month she gives a glimpse of the multi-cultural expatriate community that is both Al Khor, and Qatar. 
New to the site, we’d like to welcome Volvo, with the creation of our Motoring Section.I had a lovely experience of driving their XC90 for three days, and loved every minute of it. We would also like to welcome Domasco to our new Electronics & Watches Section.
Now that school is out, and it’s too hot to play outside very long, how can we keep the kids entertained? We have put together a list of camps and activities that we know of going on in Doha. If you happen to know of any more, please let us know, so we can share the information with everybody.
July Events: July is a bit quieter than our previous months, but we still have our regular events on going. Sundays, the Moms & Tots are at Ray’s Reef from 3:00-5:00. The weekly Wednesday coffee mornings are at La Café du Maison in Villagio at 10:00. Our Movie Night will be as usual, on the 4th Sunday of the month, July 27th. Plus, look on the Events page for more details about the July Girls’ Night Out. 
First and foremost: The EW & Lucky Brand Jeans Fashion Show!!! We had an excellent turnout of over seventy-five ladies. It was a great morning of giggles and fashion. We had seven very lucky, Lucky winners, five of whom won pairs of jeans, plus one t-shirt winner, and a handbag winner. The rest of us all left with our cute tote bags and big smiles. If you were like me, you came back the store afterwards, or during their sale, and left with entirely too many bags!
Our June night events were a blast. As always, we had a great time at the Girls’ Night Out This time, we ventured to Ruby Wu’s at the Ramada for a lovely dinner and a few of us continued on at Bubbles. The true young at hearts were even caught out at Cube in the wee hours! We also had a wonderful time at our first Movie Night. Sarah was very gracious to offer her home to our silly bunch. We cackled all the way through Knocked Up and left very full with the absurd amount of food that we put together in the potluck.
Our cooking classes were a great success as well. In Miki’s 2nd Sushi Demonstration, and Gill’s Gyoza Making Demonstration, we learned great cooking techniques and raised money for charity. The proceeds from the Sushi class went towards aid for the Chinese earthquake victims, and proceeds from the Gyoza class paid for a printer/ scanner for the animal shelter.
In Wellbeing & Fitness, we look at keeping fit in the summer, when it’s far too easy to sit around in the air-conditioning and dread the idea of moving in the heat.This month our Go Green is making Car washing just got a little more exciting… Of course, take a peak at the updated photo gallery for pictures from The EW & Lucky Brand Jeans Fashion Show, June Girls’ Night, the Sushi Demonstration, the Gyoza Demonstration, and Glamour shots—an assortment from the coffee mornings, previous girls’ nights, and the June Movie Night.
